Installation Instructions

Warning: Before installation, ensure all voltage sources (supply and process voltage) are switched off. Failure to do so may result in electric shock, equipment damage, or explosion in hazardous areas.

Mounting Options

1

Wall Mounting

Use the mounting holes on the back of the transmitter housing. Recommended screws: M4 or #8. Ensure the mounting surface is flat and can support the transmitter weight.

2

Pipe Mounting

Use the optional pipe mounting kit (order separately). The kit allows mounting on pipes with diameters from 1" to 2" (25 mm to 50 mm).

Electrical Connections

1

Power Supply Connection

The transmitter is loop-powered (two-wire device) and requires 13.5 to 55 VDC. Connect the power supply to terminals L+ (+24 VDC) and M (0 VDC).

2

Sensor Connection

Connect the pH/ORP/pION sensor to the appropriate terminals. Refer to the terminal block diagram in the user manual for specific wiring details.

Note: Maximum sensor cable length is 100 ft (30.5 m). For longer distances, use signal conditioners or extension cables approved by ABB.
3

Communication Connection

If using digital communication (HART, Foundation Fieldbus, PROFIBUS PA), connect the communication lines according to the selected protocol specifications.

Warning: Do not connect any voltages or signals to reserved terminals (marked with ---). Reserved terminals may carry internal voltages that could cause injury or equipment damage.

Configuration and Calibration

Configuration

The TB82PH2110430 can be configured using either the front panel pushbuttons or through digital communication (HART, Foundation Fieldbus, PROFIBUS PA). The intuitive menu system guides the user through setup, calibration, and maintenance procedures.

1

Basic Configuration

  • Select measurement type (pH, ORP, or pION)
  • Configure temperature compensation mode
  • Set output range and scaling
  • Configure display options
2

Advanced Configuration

  • Set security codes to prevent unauthorized access
  • Configure alarm settings and relay outputs (if applicable)
  • Set up digital communication parameters
  • Configure diagnostic functions
Note: Foundation Fieldbus, PROFIBUS PA models, and HART are available only in advanced mode.

Calibration

The transmitter supports both one-point and two-point calibration methods. For accurate measurements, regular calibration is recommended.

1

One-Point Calibration

Used to adjust for offsets that may occur when the sensor is in process. Immerse the sensor in a single buffer solution and follow the menu prompts.

2

Two-Point Calibration

Provides higher accuracy across the entire measurement range. Immerse the sensor in two different buffer solutions (typically pH 4.01 and pH 7.00 or pH 7.00 and pH 10.01) and follow the menu prompts.

Note: When initiating a two-point calibration, the user has the option to hold the analog output at a defined level.
3

Factory Reset

If necessary, the transmitter can be easily reset back to factory calibration settings through the menu system.

Diagnostics and Maintenance

Diagnostic Features

The TB82PH2110430 includes comprehensive diagnostic functions to help identify and troubleshoot issues with the transmitter, sensor, or process.

  • Sensor error detection (open circuit, short circuit)
  • Out-of-range measurements
  • Temperature sensor diagnostics
  • Loop current monitoring
  • Communication status indicators
  • Calibration due reminders

Maintenance Recommendations

1

Regular Sensor Maintenance

Clean the sensor regularly according to the process conditions. Replace the sensor when response time deteriorates or calibration cannot be achieved within acceptable limits.

2

Transmitter Inspection

Periodically inspect the transmitter housing for damage and ensure the seals are intact to maintain the NEMA 4X/IP65 rating.

3

Calibration Verification

Verify calibration regularly using standard buffer solutions. The frequency depends on the process conditions and accuracy requirements.

Warning: The device must not be opened when in operation. Disconnect all power before performing any maintenance procedures.
